When 2020 started, I felt like it was a fresh start with a whole bunch of new possibilities. Little did I know, 2020 had a different idea for all of us. This year just really hasn’t been too kind. However, I have decided to look back over the whole 2020/lockdown experience in a more positive way to see what good things have happened so far this year.

So yeah, let’s throw on our positive pants and think about what we are grateful for…

Gained a friend.

If you follow me on social media, regularly read this blog or know me in real life, then you’ll know that 2020 brought me some heartbreak. I did share a post here on my blog where I spoke a little about my break up. We were together for five years so as you can imagine, that felt a little bit like my whole life was ruined. However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom.

Instead of losing someone who I invested five years of my life into, I gained a friend. My ex and I decided that it would be best for us to stay friends and I actually think it works best this way. At first I was worried how it would work but everything just seems to fit into place perfectly.

Rekindled my love for gaming.

I don’t mention it a lot on here but one of the things that I really love in life is gaming. During the end of 2019, I stopped gaming quite a lot. I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be part of the community and I just lost my passion.

Since lockdown (and the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons) I have managed to revive my love of gaming and talking about games within the online community.

I know that I’m not a huge hardcore fan of gaming and I won’t know what everything some of the gaming community talk about, but I love games and I want to play them and talk about them for my own enjoyment, and that should be okay.

Found time for films.

I’m a huge fan of watching films and I have tried to watch as many films as I can for the past few years. However, I hardly found the time to sit down and enjoy a film.

Since lockdown started, I figured that I needed to fill my time with something so I figured it might as well be watching films. Plus, Disney+ was released in the UK during lockdown so that certainly helps.

I decided that since I was watching more films again, I would find a way to track all of the films that I had been watching. After asking over on my Twitter, I was recommended Letterboxd which I think I have mentioned on here before. But I just love it!

Amazon wishlist gifting.

I can’t even remember if this started at the same time as lockdown or if it was just slightly before it, but 2020 brought a huge amount of people gifting each other items from their Amazon wishlists.

It’s just such a lovely idea that I couldn’t resist mentioning it in this post. Even during a pandemic where lots of people had lost their jobs, people were sending each other gifts which arrived to people like little packages of happiness. Honestly, I just love the Amazon wishlist gifting thing so much. Please can we all keep on being kind and trying to make each other smile!

I know that 2020 has been tough for a lot of people and honestly, I am with you. So, I really hope that the last few months of the year are perfect!

I totally understand the heartbreak of a relationship breakdown but it is brilliant that you have stayed friends. I actually really enjoyed lockdown as it strengthened certain friendships and got me into watercolour painting.

That’s awesome that you and your ex were able to rekindle your friendship. That must have been so difficult at first but I’m glad you two found a way to make it work. ♥

So glad you’ve managed to stay friends and take the edge off an otherwise horrible situation. Didn’t we all think 2020 was going to be our year?? It’s great that you’re able to see the positive side of what life’s thrown at us – I was finding it difficult for a long time but I’m finally at a stage where I think a couple of things that have ruined my year, could actually have been blessings in disguise (in a way, anyway!).
