Places To Store Your Books Around Your Home (Other Than Your Bookshelves)

As a reader, I’m constantly adding new books to my collection. My shelves are getting full but that’s not going to stop me from visiting a local bookshop and grabbing some new books.

At this point, books are becoming more than just a fun hobby. Yes, I still buy my books to read them. But now they are becoming a part of my personality and therefore, they can have a double function and be used as interior decor.

If you’re like me and have too many books to fit your shelves, here are some other places to store your books around your home…

Add books to your windowsill

Sitting by the window on a sunny day with a cup of tea and a good book is unmatched. The vibes are immaculate and more people need to read by the window. Grab yourself a comfy chair or cushion, get cosy and read the day away. To encourage yourself to create this beautiful moment for yourself, keep your books on the windowsill so they are nearby and you feel tempted to spend a bit of time reading. Just a quick note though, if you live in a sunny area then your books may get a little sun-damaged.

Store books in your fireplace

This is not me telling you that you need to set fire to your books. That would be blasphemy. However, if you have a defective fireplace that you can’t use, then you have been blessed by the book gods. You can stack some of your books inside the fireplace which makes the room feel instantly cosier.

Frame your doorway

Not only is this a practical way of storing your books, but it’s aesthetically pleasing too. Adding shelving around your doorway gives you more storage space as well as makes you feel like you’re stepping into a fairytale every time you walk through the door. If you live in a smaller home, then utilising the space above the door is a great way to store more of your books and still leave you with space to live your life without clutter.

Piled On Your Bedside Table

Keeping a book stack on your bedside table makes your room feel so much cosier. But be warned, having books near your bed makes it tempting to get snug and never leave. My favourite way to store books near my bed is by keeping a little stack of the books I’m currently reading or plan to pick up next. Seeing my books at least twice a day is a great way to remind myself to get reading and helps me feel excited to read.

Books on Display Stands

Sometimes a book is just so pretty that you need to show it off. Or maybe you have a favourite book that you want to tell everyone to read. If so, why not display your books on display stands around your home. You can add them to your fireplace surround, the windowsill, your tv unit, your actual bookshelves, or your bedside table. The possibilities are endless.

One of the best things about books (apart from reading them) is being able to scatter them around your home. Seeing all your favourite books in your daily living spaces creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that encourages everyone to read a bit more.

So tell me, do you store your books all around your home? Or are your books all organised on your bookshelves?

  1. These are some really great suggestions on where to store your books. I don’t have too many books so currently I have some in my bedside table and others under the bed right now. Thank you for sharing.
