Whenever I think about how most people don’t make use of their local library it makes me so sad. A place full of free books, why wouldn’t you love that?!
Since libraries are such an important part of life, I figured I’d share 5 reasons why you should be making the most of your local library.
Library books are free. How cool is that?! You can read pretty much any book you want without spending a single penny. As an extra bonus, you get to read new books even while you’re on a book-buying ban.
There’s no way to know if we will enjoy a book until we have read it. Sure, we can read reviews and see what people have to say, but ultimately that book can still be disappointing. Using the library means that you didn’t spend money on a bad book. If you don’t like it then you can simply return it. No money was wasted at all.
More room on your bookshelves
Your book collection can take up quite a lot of space. But if you actually have a look at your collection, would you say that all of those books are ones that you thoroughly enjoyed? Probably not. Personally, I only like to keep books that I enjoyed and that I’m happy to have on display. This is where libraries can help. I can read a book and return it, meaning that there’s more room on my bookshelves for the books that I love and wish to read again.
Discover new books
While browsing the shelves of the library, you will find plenty of reading options. Most libraries have everything from classics, self-help, graphic novels and large print books. With so many options, it can be nice to pick random books off the shelf and try reading something new. You never know, you might even find your new favourite book.
Sometimes I head to my local library with a crochet project or my iPad and I just sit at a desk and enjoy being surrounded by books. My local library is such a cosy place to spend time. Who wouldn’t be happy when they are surrounded by books?!
Over the years, libraries are receiving less funding due to government cutbacks. So use them while you can.
Books save lives.
