We live in a world where society values stuff and tells us that more is better. We feel pressured to buy all the latest trends and invest in all the life-changing products. We are taught to belive that the more we buy, that happier we will be. But that’s not true at all.
The reality of it is that having too much stuff can feel chaotic and overwhelming. It can lead us to feel anxious and lonely too.
So if society wants us to keep buying things and we are feeling guilty about the idea of decluttering, then how are we supposed to get out of this clutter cycle?
That’s where I can help.
You home is meant to be comfortable and welcoming. If your stuff doesn’t make you feel positive then we need to fight that guilt and get rid.
One of my favourite ways of expressing gratitude is by journaling. I try to write in my gratitude journal daily and it really helps me to feel like there’s some good in this world even though everything is more challenging these days.
Practising gratitude has such a positive impact on your health and well-being as well as making you happier in general.
What is a gratitude journal?
A gratitude journal is basically just a notebook where you write down what you’re grateful for. You can make it as simple or detailed as you like. It’s completely personal to you.
In today’s busy world, it’s not surprising that more and more people are turning to slow and intentional living. No one wants to be living a chaotic and stressful life.
What is intentional living?
Essentially, intentional living is a lifestyle that allows you to focus on what you want and work towards that. Through intentional living, we can define our goals, work on our priorities and live slowly.
Intentional living helps us live life rather than life just happening to us.
How to live more intentionally?
The best way to start living an intentional life is by making a series of small, daily habits and changes. Gradually you’ll notice little lifestyle changes.
I’ve been decluttering a lot recently. My home was rapidly becoming a place of clutter which was negatively impacting my mental health.
My home no longer felt like my safe space and began to add to the stress of daily life. Instead of walking through the front door and feeling ready to relax, I felt like I still had so much to do because my home was in chaos.
Enough was enough, I needed to do something about it!
This is when I discovered minimalism and decluttering. I’d watched hundreds (yes hundreds) of YouTube videos all about how owning less can improve your mental health and wellbeing. A repeated theme in as lot of the videos I watched was productivity and slow living. Those are two things that I value in my life too so I figured, why not become a minimalist?
Well, I’ll tell you why; I like stuff. I enjoy collecting things, especially books and plushes. I love having physical copy of photographs to flick through. I want to be surrounded by beautiful things.
So that ruled out being a minimalist for me.
But does that mean that I couldn’t embrace decluttering into my life? Absolutely not!
Winter can be a pretty difficult time of year for many people. The days are shorter and the weather is colder. But that doesn’t mean there are not beautiful parts of Winter too.
It can be harder to see the beauty in life during the shorter days, but that’s just even more of a reason to find joy in the small moments. We need to romanticise those little moments in life that we usually rush through. Slow down and take a second to appreciate those little, magical moments that Winter offers us.

Practising gratitude is a great way to help you feel happier in life. I often forget to look on the more positive side and I’m sure many others do too. Life can get in the way and we forget to take a moment to appreciate everything we have.
However, today is my birthday so it’s the perfect time for me to reflect on all the things I’m grateful for.
I know that 2020 really hasn’t been a great year for most people, but that doesn’t mean that it’s all doom and gloom.
Sometimes you might have to search pretty hard for something to be grateful for but there will always be something. Even when you feel like your day is going terribly, there’s still something to be grateful for.
When you really think about it, there is so much we have to be grateful for. Here are 100 of those things.
The teenage years are hard. If I think back to my teenage years, I wince a little at the thought of it all. There’s the difficulty of learning who you are, making friends and dealing with school. Plus, it’s the time in life when your hormones are going crazy, but I won’t even get started on that.
However, there are parts I miss about my teenage years too and some of those things make me wish that I appreciated those moments so much more while I had the chance.
Time is something that you can never get back. I’ll never be able to go back to my teenage years and experience those moments and things again, but that doesn’t mean I can’t take the life lessons and incorporate them into my daily life now. It also doesn’t mean that I can’t share my thoughts with current teens to read in the hopes that it helps them appreciate things now.
